Size Reduction Introduction

 Size reduction

It is also known as comminution, grinding pulverization, diminution, Crushing Disintegration .but the very common name is Size reduction.

What is size reduction ?

Size reduction is the process of reducing large solid unit masses into smaller particles . Coarse particles or Fine Particles . the process id called size reduction, and final product will result in course particle or fine particle .

Process of Size Reduction in :

Application of Mechanical is called  Milling .

Solid Material is called Cutting or Grinding .

Liquid Material is called atomisation or emulsification .

# NOTE :

You Might have Studied about the two phases in an system . known as biphasic liquid dosage form these are generally oil in water or water in the emulsion type dosage forms .These are made from the two immisible liquids. these contain very fine particle which is archived by the Size Reduction .it is liquid in liquid biphasic dosage form which are not missible in nature .

Suspension are also example of the biphasic liquid dosage form in which the small solid particle is suspended in the liquid form and showing brovian movements . It Is solid in liquid biphasic dosage form .

Importance of Size Reduction .

1. Decreasing the size will increase the surface area of the particle which also improve the rate of the absorption .

Example : - laddu is prepared from bundi . the laddu have small surface area then the bundis if considered all added together the surface area of the same .

2. Increase the extraction of active constituents from plant source .

3. To get Uniform size .

4. Increase the stability of (Suspension).

5. Effective Drying .
